Transportation Engineers – Multiple Locations Throughout the United States

Independently performs transportation related design tasks including: roadway geometric design, storm drain design and calculations, plan and specification preparation. Some investigational field work required as necessary on projects. The member must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specific objectives and require the investigations of a limited number of variables. Accountable to Project Lead/Manager and Discipline Approver for discipline output and project results.
• Assists in the collection and analysis of data from reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs to plan and design projects.
• Assists in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
• Assists in the development of probable design costs estimated for projects with the department.
• Attends onsite and offsite client meetings.
• Serves as onsite resident project representative, reviews construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.
• Prepares and checks design computations and quantity estimates. (appropriate to discipline)
• Assists in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, permits and designs for projects. • Instructs designers/technicians to reduce designs to working drawings.
• Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. This software includes InRoads and Microstation
• Contacts vendors, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants to obtain information, guidance and requirements.
• Adheres to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual.
• Assists in the development of design guides, guide specifications and design control procedures. Usually involves diversified work within general procedures, requiring frequent judgment and initiative. Only exceptional cases outside of general procedures referred to manager.

Requires Bachelors of Science in Engineering from an accrdited four-year college or university, Professional Engineer or 7 years experience and progression towards a P.E.
